Three Simple Tips for Building Blog Readership

1. Write and post and syndicate
Here in Part Three of “Turn your Blog into a Marketing Powerhouse,” we’ll first recap parts one and two: First, write and post on a consistent basis – at least once a week – and syndicate your content via RSS and social media.

2. Leverage inbound and outbound links
Remember, these two types of links have very different functions. Outbound links, in which you link to an external site, help establish your credibility, while inbound links (aka backlinks), where external sites link to you, show the relevance and popularity of your blog. Backlinks are more important to your search ranking because, according to Moz, search engines care more about what other relevant and established sites think about you than what you think about yourself:

How do you get these backlinks? While online press releases and guest blog posts can be helpful, the hands-down tactic to attract links from relevant and important websites is to provide content they want to share. Make the content useful or entertaining or innovative or all of the above, and don’t forget to add buttons to Facebook and Twitter to make it easy for them to share.

3. Take advantage of free tools
Hootsuite and Buffer are two popular tools for managing your social media, since they let you schedule Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn postings in advance, shorten links and engage in one place, saving time. Start with their free versions, and upgrade if and when needed.

These sites also offer useful content and shareable tips of their own to help build your blog reader base.
